Toyota Sulfur Smell

Some manufacturers, Toyota and Nissan among them, have had a persistent problem with sulphur smell in the passenger compartment. Customers often describe it as a "rotten egg" smell.

Initially Toyota denied responsibility. Toyota has since come out with a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), for various models, including the 2003 and 2004 Forerunners, in an attempt to solve it. The TSB is titled "Excessive Sulfur Dioxide Odor". The results of the TSB have not always been good and the problem persists in some vehicles that have had the TSB performed.

Additionally, Toyota has had the problem in some other models, notably the Corolla, Camry, Solara, Matrix, and the Forerunner. If the manufacturer is not able to fix the problem after a reasonable number of attempts, the car may be eligible for repurchase under the Lemon Law.
